Sheepdogs have been an important part of English farm life for many centuries. However, they did not always get the recognition they deserve. In recent years, the value of sheepdogs has increased greatly. Today, they are highly sought after and respected for their skill in farm work.
Many top sheepdogs now come from Wales. One famous example is Kim, a border collie from Ceredigion, which sold for a world record price of $36,630 in February.
Emrys Jones, a sheep farmer and dog trainer from Barmouth, Gwynedd, often receives calls from around the world asking about his dogs. He has shipped 40 dogs to countries like South Korea, Japan, Australia, Norway, and the United States. Emrys said, “The older generation would never have believed what is happening right now.”
Michael Priestley from Farmers Weekly added, “These expensive dogs help gather sheep faster and more efficiently. They reduce labor costs and are a smart investment for farmers.”
