ដំរីអាស៊ីមានឈ្មោះវិទ្យាសាស្ត្រថា Elephas maximus។ វាជាប្រភេទដំរីដែលមានដើមកំណើតនៅអាស៊ី។ នៅបច្ចុប្បន្ន វាត្រូវបានគេប្រទះឃើញនៅក្នុងអនុទ្វីបឥណ្ឌា និងអាស៊ីអាគ្នេយ៍។ តំបន់ដែលវារស់នៅមានចាប់ពីឥណ្ឌានៅភាគខាងលិច កាត់ផុតនេប៉ាល់ កោះស៊ូម៉ាត្រា និងដល់កោះបូណេអូនៅភាគខាងកើត។
អាយុមធ្យមរបស់វាគឺប្រហែល ៤៨ ឆ្នាំ។ ដំរីឈ្មោលមានទម្ងន់ប្រហែល ៤,០០០ គីឡូក្រាម និងកម្ពស់ ២.៨ ម៉ែត្រ។ ចំណែកឯដំរីញីមានទម្ងន់ ២,៧០០ គីឡូក្រាម និងកម្ពស់ ២.៤ ម៉ែត្រ។ វាមានរយៈពេលពពោះចន្លោះពី ១៨ ទៅ ២២ ខែ។
នៅក្នុងប្រទេសកម្ពុជា មានដំរីអាស៊ីប្រហែលចន្លោះពី ៤០០ ទៅ ៦០០ ក្បាល។ ភាគច្រើនរស់នៅតាមតំបន់ជួរភ្នំក្រវាញ ខ្ពង់រាបខាងជើងទន្លេសាប និងខ្ពង់រាបខាងកើតក្នុងខេត្តមណ្ឌលគិរី។ តំបន់ទាំងនេះមានប្រព័ន្ធអេកូស៊ីស្ទេមល្អ និងជីវៈចម្រុះសម្បូរ ដែលជាជម្រកល្អសម្រាប់ដំរី និងសត្វព្រៃផ្សេងៗទៀត។

The Asian Elephant (Elephas maximus) is a large mammal native to Asia. It lives across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, from India and Nepal to the islands of Sumatra and Borneo.
Asian elephants have an average lifespan of about 48 years. Adult males weigh around 4,000 kilograms and stand about 2.8 meters tall. Females are smaller, weighing around 2,700 kilograms and reaching 2.4 meters in height. The pregnancy period for an Asian elephant is very long, lasting between 18 to 22 months.
In Cambodia, there are an estimated 400 to 600 Asian elephants. Most of them live in the Cardamom Mountains, the northern floodplains around Tonle Sap Lake, and the eastern highlands of Mondulkiri Province. These regions offer rich biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, which are perfect habitats for elephants and many other wild animals.
The Asian elephant is classified as endangered. Its population is decreasing due to habitat loss, human conflict, and illegal hunting. Because of this, it is protected by both national and international laws. Efforts are ongoing to conserve this rare and important species.
